Michigan's Heart and Soul is a collection of poems about Michigan, inspired by such places as Harbour Springs, Tahquamenon Falls, and Fayette. The accompaning photos were all taken by the author, Valerie Wilson, during her many trips to the Upper Pennisula. The photo with her poem The U. P. was taken in Copper Harbor. A photo taken while waking through Tahquamenon Falls State Park in Paradise inspired the poem Cradle of the Forest.
